It has finally happened, my friends. After 3+ months of marriage, my wife has discovered my first personality flaw.
And it is…
I have cardboard box kleptomania.
Yes, friends. I, WhiteEyebrows, fully admit to being a hoarder of boxes. I love a nice fresh box. I love the smell of corrugated paper, stapled and taped together in a rectangular cube. I love the various labels, insignias, and markings that a box can accumulate throughout its useful life.
I’m sick, I know.
So here’s the story. We recently went to the cannery to start our long term food storage. When we were deciding where to actually put the food, my wife gave me two options: install a storm cellar in the back yard, or clean out the walk in closet in the guest room. Since the storm cellar was infinitely more expensive, I went for the latter option.
The picture above is only part of the boxes that were being stored in the guest closet. I keep boxes for a lot of reasons… 1) if I ever need to ship the major applicance/electronic device it came in or 2) if it’s in good enough shape to ship something in at a later time in my life or 3) if I ever need to move.
Here is part of the trash we pulled out of the closet.
Let me show you what I’ve convinced her to keep.
You can’t really tell, but the closet is much emptier now and much cleaner! I will miss my dear old friends as they go to their new, recycled home, though.
Does anyone need a box? I’ve got ’em.
YOU ARE sick! I didn’t know you had this problem. That’s crazy. When we moved I couldn’t get rid of those bexes fast enough.
I can sympathize, I have a similar addiction to office supplies. I cannot go into a store without browsing the stationery/home office aisles.
You can always find boxes… but if we need some, we’ll know where to go. Although, I doubt you’ll be lending out any of these collector’s items!
How about you put a bunch of those boxes in a bigger box and ship them to me? I’m moving someday soon and have been gathering boxes just so I’m prepared. Your collection would definitely be helpful!
YES !!! We need boxes! Lots of them. Seriously, if you have boxes left that you want to get rid of we will take them. Let us know.
