A few things to get Monday started, and to clear my plate of blog-worthy items:
New Retail Strategy
Retail has always had catchy slogans to help train the masses of employees and customers they try to get to buy stuff. I’m thinking:
- “The Customer is Always Right”
- “We sell for less”
- “Where’s the beef?”
Well, I’m here to inform you that there’s a new strategy out there. It must be due to the recent recession, so I’m calling it Recession Strategy 09 or RS09 for short. It appears to be: “We pay you to shop here!”
Three examples from this past weekend:
I Couldn’t Do It Without You
Today I am paying homage to my top 10 referrers. These are the sites who are responsible for sending a great deal of traffic to my website. These blogs and websites are the hard-hitters, the trend setters, and the ones to whom my fantasy popularity is all due!
Being Michael Collins
If you’ve turned on the TV or radio in the last few days, you will have heard something about yesterday being the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Apollo moon landing. This historic event made Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin household names and legends in their time.
But if you know much about the Apollo landing, you’ll know that there was a third guy who didn’t get to walk on the moon. He stayed in the Command Module which orbited the moon while his colleagues landed and made history there. His name, if you don’t know, was Michael Collins.
Two Newlywed Lessons
Yesterday, my wife and I finally removed a very large stressor from off our plate. We gave a musical fireside for the youth of the church that I had committed us to a few months ago.
After writing, re-writing, practicing, stressing, melting-down, shutting down, booting back up, rehearsing, stressing, re-writing again, practicing more, it was the night before the fireside. We were feeling mostly good about it, and decided to go to the grocery store to get some of the stuff we needed.
Random Thoughts
Just a few random thoughts for today… along with this random picture:
Oh Bernie…
Bernard Madoff arrived at federal prison yesterday to begin his 150 year sentence.
That means he’ll be released in 2139.
Somehow, I just don’t think the aged man will make it that long…
Maybe we should change how we punish our white collar criminals in this country… Just think: how many of the most brilliant, creative minds are relegated to regimented recreation time, laundry duty, and Wopner/Jeopardy time? Is the best use of their time allowing them to watch time pass by the nightly aging of Pat Sajak? Perhaps we should sentence them to being hall monitors at elementary schools or something… I’m sure we could utilize their talents much more in society rather than letting them waste away behind bars.
WhiteEyebrows vs. the Backyard
On the suggestion from my mom, today’s topic is going to be about my longstanding project – the back yard…
My One Personality Flaw
It has finally happened, my friends. After 3+ months of marriage, my wife has discovered my first personality flaw.
And it is…
